2018 Open Call for Resident Artist

Artist Residency TEMI, an affiliate of Daejeon Culture and Arts Foundation, offers arts residency to support the creative activities of resident artists through various specialized programs and communication and exchange platforms. We await active participation by a lot of talented and enthusiastic artists.

○ Application duration : Nov. 14(Tue.) ~ Nov. 17(Fri.), 2017

2. Applicants

○ Field of recruitment : Visual Arts (Drawing, Sculpture, Installation, Video, New Media etc.)

○ Number of invitees : 5 Domestic and 1~3 International Artists (teams : maximum 2 persons)

3. Eligibility

○ Domestic or international artists 25 years of age or older (Birthdate prior to Dec. 31, 1993 / Based on the Ordinance of Artist Residency TEMI)

○ Determination of the nationality status (domestic / international) of teams will be based on the nationality of team leader

○ Team should include at least one visual artist

○ Artists who participated in residency program of Artist Residency TEMI for 2 years can apply in 2019

[Those excluded from eligibility]
· Recipients of Daejeon Culture and Arts Foundation's cultural and artistic support programs for 2017 (Applicants are prohibited from benefiting from both programs. However, they can apply for both programs and then make their choice between the two.)

· University students

· Abdicants in 1st~ 4th resident artists of Artist Residency TEMI

· Members from common associations/societies

· Groups run by schools, religious organizations or social clubs whose main goal is not genuine artistic activities

· Artists who are currently engaged or scheduled to be engaged in other artists in residence programs

4. Duration of residency

○ Domestic : 11 months (Jan. 16, 2018 ~ Dec. 14, 2018)

○ International : To select among

                            Term 1 / Jan. 16 ~ Apr. 25, 2018

                            Term 2 / May. 8 ~ Aug. 17, 2018

                            Term 3 / Aug. 28 ~ Dec. 14, 2018

- Artists who can take care of the visa issue on their own can choose to stay for 1 ~ 3 terms.

- Artists who choose to stay for 2terms or longer should have a continuous(unbroken) residency period (They are prohibited from choosing the term 1 and term 3).

5. Support offered by program

○ 1 Studio per 1 artist(team)

- Exemption from studio fee, taxes and public utilities (only for electricity, water, internet

○ Archiving : Publishing work books of solo exhibitions for who hold solo exhibitions in Artist Residency TEMI(include photo shoot), publishing catalogue of residency

※ Artist Residency TEMI provide partial finance support for participating in residency programs and exhibitions but not for airfare

6. Mandatories

○ Artist shall follow the regulations of Artist Residency Temi and execute residency programs

○ Artist shall actively participate exchange programs which vitalize local community

7. How to apply

○ Application duration : Nov. 14(Tue.) ~ Nov. 17(Fri.), 24 p.m. 2017

○ Application process : Submit an application on the website of Artist Residency TEMI (www.temi.or.kr → Open call → Application)

8. Selection process

○ 1st expert evaluation (Document screening) : Nov. 22(Wed.), 2017

○ 2nd expert evaluation (Interview and Presentation) : Nov. 29(Wed.), 2017

(※ International artists are exempted from 2nd expert evaluation)

○ Release of results : Dec. 1(Fri.), 2017

9. Required documents

○ Application, planning statement for creation : Submit an application on the website

○ Portfolio : upload on the website

- File format : *.pdf (Select still cut from the video and insert caption & URL)

- Capacity limit : 1 file of 70MB(30 pages) for entire image and video

○ Copy of passport : Upload scan file

- File format : *.jpg or *.pdf

- Capacity limit : 2MB

○ Certificate of the educational background or Certificate of student status(from bachelor's degree )

- Capacity limit : 2MB

10. Other matters

○ As submitted documents are used as evaluation materials, they should be filled out accurately and in detail. If any information in the documents is insufficient or untruthful, relevant applicants may be excluded from evaluation or have a disadvantage in the selection process.

○ Submitted documents and reference materials shall not be returned.

○ Schedule of open call can be changed, so please check website’s notice board.

○ It is applicant’s responsibilities in terms of disadvantages which are occurred by not being well informed of details of open call, Artist Residency Temi shall not take any responsibilities of it.

○ It is regarded as rejection of joining residency who does not sign on a contract document.
