The Bite Back Movement(이승연(1982~), 알렉산더 어거스투스 Alexander Augustus(1988~))는 “사회적 억압에 순응하지 않겠다”라는 작가적 선언 아래 ‘종교’, ‘청년실업’, ‘이주 노동자’ 등과 같은 사회적 이슈를 미래를 통해 현재를 성찰하는 작업을 하고 있다. 이번 전시에서는  컬렉션 중 <붉은 십자가의 교회>의 시리즈를 발전시켜 선보인다. 대한민국 어디에서나 볼 수 있는 붉은 네온사인이 마치 무덤이자 미래의 도시처럼 느껴진 작가는 이를 토대로 2100년 통일된 ‘네오 조선(Neo Korea)’ 을 살아가는 종교인의 미래를 보여주는 작업을 진행하였다. 리서치를 바탕으로 했지만 작가의 기이한 상상력과 흥미로운 성경구절을 통해 종교인뿐만 아니라 평범한 사람들에게 믿음의 도구 역할을 하는 아트 오브젝트 Art object를 선보인다. 미래의 기독교인의 의상, 움직이는 교회 조각, 미래의 예배형식을 가시화한 퍼포먼스 영상, 과거부터 2100년까지 신들의 여행을 다룬 실크스크린 시리즈 등 다양한 설치작업으로 구성된다.
The Bite Back Movement (LEE Seungyoun (1982~) and Alexander Augustus (1988~)) has been working on social issues such as religion, youth unemployment and migrant workers as well as the contemplation of the present through the future, after declaring that it would not conform to social suppression.
In this exhibition, the team presents an advanced version of the The Church of Red Cross. series, which belong to the OH MAY GOD collection. Feeling as if the red neon signs, which can be seen anywhere in the Republic of Korea, represent tombs or future cities, the artists worked to show the future of religious people who live in a unified ‘Neo Korea’ in the year 2100. Although based on a study, they present an art object that plays the role of a tool of faith for not only the religious but also for ordinary people using their extraordinary imagination and interesting passages from the Bible. It comprises various installation works including the costumes of future Christians, moving church statues, a performance video that visualizes future church services, and a silk screen series on the voyage of gods from the past up to the year 2100.
